All About Sleep Apnea

A Multitude of Ways to Cure Sleep Apnea

Curing obstructive sleep apnea has more recourses than the other types of sleep apnea. There are ways to cure sleep apnea that involve machines or devices and others that involve a change in lifestyle patterns for that individual. When finding ways to cure sleep apnea, the person should work very closely with the doctor so that the best method can be obtained.

Often it takes trying multiple methods over a period of time to find one that works for the person’s lifestyle and type of sleep apnea. There are times, however, when the person’s sleep apnea is so severe that the only way to cure sleep apnea for them is surgery. There are three basic surgical methods that are used, one of which is only used when it is a life threatening situation. The first one removes some of the excess tissue from the upper throat and mouth. The second repositions the jaw so that there is more space in the back of the throat so that it does not become blocked at night. The final way to cure sleep apnea which is the most severe requires implanting a metal or plastic tube in the throat which is covered in the day so that the person can breathe normally, but is uncovered at night so that the airway is clear.

Other Methods

One other way to cure sleep apnea if it is not very severe is to use an apnea pillow. These pillows stop the person from turning over on his back during the night so that he is forced to sleep on his side or stomach. These pillows are often sewn into a pajama top so that they are sure to stay in place during the entire night.

Another way to cure sleep apnea is to use an oral device that is refined by a dentist to fit the mouth. This device helps to move the jaw into a good position so that there is more room at the back of the throat for the person to breathe. The device will need to be checked yearly to see if it is still working properly to cure the symptoms that the person has.

There are other ways to cure sleep apnea that involve alternative medicines. Acupuncture has been found to be helpful when it is used with other methods, but there has not been definitive proof either way. There are also breathing machines that are used as ways to cure sleep apnea which have been proven effective.
